Gallina Canyon
It is very quiet in the Gallina Canyon area and feels very isolated and yet it is close enough to Taos to be practical. We have a nice community of families here with kids of all ages. Most residents work in Taos or Taos Ski Valley. We drive a couple of miles over a slow gravel road to get in, and a 4 wheel drive vehicle is preferred in the winter, but this is a small price to pay for privacy! We have a road association and each land owner contributes $100 to $200 a year depending on how far up the road they live. This amount of road dues gets a couple of gradings, some touch up gravel and snow plowing of the main road.
This area is very unique. The land has been subdivided by several individuals rather than one developer. The freedom of the use of the land is not heavily restricted and the prices are not a high as other developments in Taos County. Yet the land and view are exceedingly beautiful. Land which matches the feeling of isolation and beauty of Gallina Canyon would be beyond the financial reach of most people if it were located in many other states of our country or even in other areas of Taos County. |
